A copper-alloy zoomorphic fitting, either from a vessel or furniture and dating to the Roman period. The mount is approximately conical in shape and hollow. The interior of the mount is coated with a white substance, perhaps lead solder. The circumference of the base possesses a series of semi-circular cut-outs giving it the appearance of a lion's mane. From the centre of the mount there extends a rectangular lug, which then becomes approximately oval in shape. The lug is intended to represent the head of an animal, perhaps a lion, although it is extremely stylised in form. The lug is…

A lead sheet rivet, probably dating to the Roman period. The object comprises a polygonal sheet. The two sides of the sheet have been folded over and then folded back on themselves, although one side is now distorted. It measures 22mm in length, 17mm in width and a maximum of 3mm in thickness. It weighs 3.93g. With their characteristic hexagonal form, sheet rivets were used to fill small splits in sheet vessels and are usually dated to the medieval period (Egan 2010, 176 and Fig. 144). However, examples have been found in Roman contexts such as at Dalton Parlours Roman villa (Wrath…

A lead-alloy object possibly a pot mend dating to the Roman period. The object is rectangular in plan and hemispherical in section, although slightly mis-shapen. On the underside, at each end, are two flat circular lugs, presumably for attachment to a vessel. The object does bear some resemblance to a 'caterpillar' stud from Roman harness and it is also possible that this is a miscast example. The object measures 29mm in length, a maximum of 7mm in width and 2mm thick. The two sub-circular lugs on the underside each measure 5mm and 6mm in width respectively.

A fragment of a copper-alloy vessel of uncertain date. The object comprises an approximately rectangular sheet which tapers slightly towards one end. The long edges of the sheet, although damaged appear to be original and therefore it appears that the object does not represent a piece cut from a larger copper-alloy vessel. The upper surface of the object is decorated with two parallel incised grooves. The lower surface possesses a more deeply incised and wider groove. The object measures 72mm in length, 15mm in width and 3mm in thickness. It weighs 10.6g.
