A fragment of a copper-alloy object, possibly a vessel mount dating to the Roman period. The object comprises a slightly curved fragment of sheet copper-alloy, with a definite rim and marginal groove. From this sheet, there extends at right angles for 14mm a moulding representing the neck of a stylised goose or duck. The moulding turns down at an angle of 45 degrees to form the head of the bird. The head of the bird is hemispherical in section. It is decorated with three chevron grooves and two lentoidal grooves with a dot at their centre representing eyes. Beyond this the moulding fla…

A lead-alloy object possibly a pot mend dating to the Roman period. The object is rectangular in plan and hemispherical in section, although slightly mis-shapen. On the underside, at each end, are two flat circular lugs, presumably for attachment to a vessel. The object does bear some resemblance to a 'caterpillar' stud from Roman harness and it is also possible that this is a miscast example. The object measures 29mm in length, a maximum of 7mm in width and 2mm thick. The two sub-circular lugs on the underside each measure 5mm and 6mm in width respectively.

An unfinished? copper-alloy vessel mount dating to the Late Iron Age or early Roman period. The mount comprises a circular plate, which is slightly convex in section. A hemispherical-section lug extends from one end of the plate and curves back on itself. The underside of the plate is plain. The mount is very roughly finished. It also appears that the copper-alloy surface may conceal iron beneath although this may just be a result of the corrosion process. The object measures 67mm in length, 52mm in width and 3mm in thickness. The lug measures 7mm in width and 9mm in thickness. It weig…

A fragment of a copper-alloy vessel of uncertain date. The object comprises an approximately rectangular sheet which tapers slightly towards one end. The long edges of the sheet, although damaged appear to be original and therefore it appears that the object does not represent a piece cut from a larger copper-alloy vessel. The upper surface of the object is decorated with two parallel incised grooves. The lower surface possesses a more deeply incised and wider groove. The object measures 72mm in length, 15mm in width and 3mm in thickness. It weighs 10.6g.

Three fragments of a lead-alloy or pewter vessel probably Roman in date. The vessel possesses a flat circular base from which the body of the vessel extends. Only a small portion of the body of the vessel survives but it is clear that it broadened out from the base. The underside of the base is decorated with a single dot at its centre. There are also three rectangular lugs arranged around its circumference, the function of which remains unclear. The vessel base measures 35mm in diameter, with the walls of the vessel reaching a height of 27mm and being 1mm thick. It weighs 23.25g.
