An complete copper-alloy bell-shaped stud of Allason-Jones Type 2 dating to the Roman period (Allason-Jones 1985). The stud possesses a short cylindrical body of a smaller diameter than usual. The long rectangular shaft has a circular opening at the end. The dish-shaped plate has a central flat topped conical knob. The stud measures 43mm in length with the head having a diameter of 15mm. The shaft element measures 33mm in length, 5mm in thickness and 7mm in width. It weighs 21.9 grams. It appears that Allason-Jones Type 2 studs were used as box fittings.

Post medieval silver stud; small circular plano-convex stud (flat on the back) with integral square-sectioned tapering spike projecting from the reverse; stud has moulded decoration of an eight-spoked wheel with two pellets in each angle. Reminiscent of late medieval/early post medieval lead buttons.
Length 8.6 mm, diameter of stud 8.5 mm - 8.8 mm, thickness of stud 2.2 mm, max width & thickness of spike 2.6 mm - 2.7 mm and weight 0.78 g.
Perhaps 15th - 16th century
As such, due to its age and precious metal content, this object qualifies as Treasure under the stipulat…
