A large, almost complete, iron cauldron or bucket handle, possibly dating to the Roman period. The handle comprises an arched, D-sectioned strip of iron. At each end, the strip tapers to form terminals which are broken and bent slightly outwards. Two flat plates are visible (CHECK THIS DESCRIPTION) which presumably originally attached to the body of the cauldron. The hanger is 225mm wide, 140mm in height and a maximum of 20mm thick. A complete iron cauldron hanger, probably dating to the Roman period. The handle comprises an arched strip of iron which is square in section. At each end, the strip thins and terminates in two oval loops. The loops are formed by bending the strip back on itself. Through one of the loops, there is threaded a circular-section wire which is bent and tapers to a point. The wire is kept in place by corrosion products. The hanger is 157mm wide and 7mm thick. The loops have a diameter of 15mm. The hanger weighs 45 grams.

The fragment comprises a section the blade which is badly damaged and corroded, but which clearly extends to a rectangular-section intregral tang. The blade measures 52mm in length and a maximum of 15mm in width. The tang measures 22mm in length, 10mm in width and 6mm in thickness.

The strip has a shallow recess which runs centrally along its length. The attachment terminals are broken but comprises loops bent slightly outwards. A fragment of an iron object with an applied copper-alloy fitting, possibly an element of a vessel dating to the Roman period. The copper-alloy fitting is embedded in a slightly convex iron sheet. On the upper surface, the fitting is circular in plan and hemispherical in section, with two tongue-shaped extensions. On the underside, the fact that the fitting is hollow is apparent. The copper-alloy fitting measures 13mm in length, 37mm in width and 22mm in height. The iron object has a length of 14mm.
