A copper-alloy decorative tack of uncertain date, but possibly Medieval rather than Roman. It comprises a circular plate, which appears slightly convex in section. The upper surface of the plate is decorated with two concentric grooves which enclose a central, circular raised cell, created with a rib of reserved metal. This rib is knurled. Within the cell is an openwork plate comprising a wheel of six spokes with triangular cut-outs between. Three of the cut-outs are filled with corrosion products. On the underside of the stud head, there extends a circular-section lug which broadens towards its terminal. The lug extends at approximately 75 degrees rather than the expected 90 degrees. The stud has a length of 12.1mm. The head has a diameter of 22.5mm and a thickness of 3.5mm. The stem has a maximum diameter of 6.9mm. The stud weighs 12.5 grams.
