A tiny silver ingot, comprising a sub-rectangular bar, of rectangular cross-section, with hammer facets visible on all four lightly concave faces. The ends are complete and rounded. Date: uncertain. The form and general appearance of the object are insufficiently diagnostic to demonstrate a date of more than 300 years old. Therefore, the object does not qualify as Treasure under the terms of the 1996 Treasure Act.

Two silver hollow hemispherical elements, each with a central hole. Each side is incised with a leaf or floral design which continues from one side to the other, and the pieces fit together to show how they were originally joined to form a hemisphere pierced at either side. The function of this object is not clear. Possibly the remains of a button, in which the loop, now missing, had a shank which joined both elements with a knop at the end. Otherwise perhaps a decorative dress fitting sewn onto a garment? The etched design suggests a roughly 16th-17th Century date. As such, due…

This report concerns a coin brooch reported as possible Treasure at the beginning of August 2008. The brooch is made of an Anglo-Saxon silver penny of the Short Cross type of Cnut (1016-35), issued in the later part of Cnut's reign by the moneyer Thurulf of Stamford. The coin has been gilded on the reverse and has been pierced four times so that brooch fittings could be secured to the obverse with rivets. This is part of a growing body of similar finds from the mid eleventh and twelfth centuries, although this particular example uses a slightly earlier coin type than other examples…

Silver-gilt mount, basically triangular form with two leaf-shaped elements along one edge meeting at a point; pierced design with two openings, the larger one apparently for attachment to another to form a clasp. Ridged bar below. On the back two studs for attachment to textile or leather. The form of this mount or fitting suggests it may have been part of a clasp of which one piece is now missing. If this interpretation is correct it might be part of a bookbinding clasp or dress fitting, but its function remains uncertain. There is very little to go on in terms of dating but it …

I have examined a silver object found at Mattishall, Norfolk. It is a silver mark of Frederik II, King of Denmark and Norway (1559-88), dated 1563 and weighing 7.21g (ref: Hede p. 11, no. 9). Normally, single coins are only eligible to be considered as Treasure if they have been converted into jewellery. This piece survives in a worn and battered state, rendering it substantially underweight for the issue, but there is no sign that it has ever been used as jewellery. In my opinion, therefore, is does not constitute Treasure according to the terms of the Act.
