A near complete, copper alloy Roman balsamarium. The vessel is in the shape of a bearded man emerging from a calyx. The features and hair of the represented male figure are consistent with Roman depictions of African men. Two integral loops are at either side of the head, where a handle would have been attached. This handle is now missing.  A comparable example of a balsamarium identified as depicting an Ethiopian youth was found in Bishopsgate in London (Sankey 2002: 12-13)
