An iuncomplete Post Medieval silver halfgroat of Charles I (c.AD 1600-1649), c.AD 1631-1632 (North 2302, Spink 2856 - end date as of Spink 2003), London mint. Worn on both faces, slight clipping. The coin's opposite edges bent in different directions, possibly for reuse as a lover's token. Obverse: Crowned bust facing left, II behind. A cast copper alloy rose farthing of Charles 1st 1636-1644, (Rose type 2). Both sides are very worn. Obverse: a double arched crown in the central field with cross fleur headed sceptres that almost reach to the outer edge of the coin. The obverse inscription probably reads CAROLVS D G MAG BRIT. Reverse: a single plain rose in the central field with a crown above it. The reverse inscription probably reads FRAN ET HIB REX. North (vol 2)(1991) page 165, ref 2291 The coin measures 12.92mm diameter, is 1.05mm thick and weighs 0.9grams.
