Object type: DISCOIDAL KNIFE
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Worcestershire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Late Neolithic (4000 - 2500 BC) discoidal knife: The knife sub-oval and is knapped from a mottled dark brown flint which is opaque where it is more slender in thickness. It has been bi-facially worked with invasive, scaled, low-angled flake removals. Over half of both the dorsal and ventral surfaces have been polished, particularly one lateral edge and the distal edge. The edges are rounded with the polishing. Knapping has removed the bulb of percussion. It measures 100.30mm long, 72.55mm wide, 13.93mm thick and weighs 115.64g. Discoidal knives in Worcestershire are very rare, this i…

The dorsal surface, along the opposite edge has multiple re-touch scars which are invasive and semi-abrupt. The ventral surface has a no obvious bulb of percussion. The scraper is knapped from flint which is a dark brown. The scraper, measures 35.15mm long, 20.11mm wide and 6.39mm thick. It weighs 4.62g.
