An incomplete copper alloy bell, probably from human dress, or a dog, hawk or horse harness, dating from the medieval period (c. 1400-1450). The bell is made of four constituent pieces, with the original suspension loop now reduced to a stub. The two halves are made from hammered copper alloy sheet and soldered together at a ridged seam running around the circumference.There are two circular apertures on the upper half of the bell, and the sounding slit and two circular holes have been cut into the bottom half of the bell. A cast copper-alloy spherical crotal bell of post-medieval date. The bell comprises two hemispherical domes with a slightly raised circumferential join. The upper hemisphere has two circular sound holes with a rectangular loop projecting from the top between them. The loop is formed of an angular bar of rectangular cross-section and is c.11.0 high, c.13.5mm wide and c.3.0mm thick. The curve of the bell continues under the loop aperture.
