An early Bronze Age copper alloy flat axe head dating to the period circa 2100-1700 BC. The axe has a narrow butt that gradually expands in width towards the cutting edge. The axe widens more sharply where the sides meet the cutting edge. The cutting edge is convex. The butt is rectangular in cross-section and the blade's cross-section is a pointed oval shape. An incomplete base silver contemporary copy of a Roman denarius of Julia Soaemias (AD 218-222), dating to the period AD 218-222 (Reece Period 10). VENVS CAELESTIS type, depicting Venus seated left, holding a sceptre and an apple, with a child at her feet. Mint of Rome. RIC IV.2, p. 48, cf. no. 243. The coin has broken between 12 and 6 o'clock on the obverse. It is covered in patches of green and orange corrosion product, suggesting that the coin was made from an alloy of copper alloy and iron. A post medieval silver thimble probably dating to the late 18th century. The thimble has a conical head with flat sides, which are now slighly bent out of shape. The sides of the thimble are covered with machine-made indentations, arranged in rows up to the crown. The crown is also decorated with machine made indentations forming a series of circles radiating outwards meeting the sides. Though the object is made of silver it contains no identifiying marks diagnostic of a manufacture date older than the 18th century, and the machine-made indentations indicate a late date for this. …
