A possible Early Medieval lead gaming piece, or a possible weight of uncertain date. The object is five sided and pyramid shaped. 18.3mm wide at the base, and 9.5mm wide at the top.12.9mm high. The object has a central circular performation. It weighs 17.96g. The object is incomplete missing a fragment near the base. Many similar objects have been found at Torksey (Hadley & Richards, Antiquaries Journal, 2016) and are identified as Viking gaming pieces, presumably used in the board game of Hnefetafl and several have been recorded on the database. A possible post medieval copper-alloy tobacco jar lid handle possibly dating to the 17th to 18th century. A human head possibly representing a male of African ethnicity appears on the tip of the handle but the surface is slightly worn. Several handles from tobacco holders decorated with African heads have been recorded on the PAS database, e.g. WMID-BA849D and SWYOR-F721A9, although this object is quite different in overall shape.
