Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Broken copper-alloy pin of early medieval date (c. AD 700 - 900). Only the pinhead remains: this is polyhedral and slightly flattened in form with a collar at the neck, which terminates in a worn break. From the collar it appears that the shaft of the pin was circular in section. The two wide faces of the pin head are decorated: one side has a celtic knot in relief, the other a motif similar in form to a capital seriffed I with downturned ends, also in relief. Intriguingly, there seems to have been some attempt to drill into the three other faces, leaving a circular depression of irre…

Copper-alloy pendant in the form of a winged erect phallus of uncertain date (c. AD 43 - 1800). The shaft of the phallus curves slightly upwards and widens from a pair of wings above a pair of testicles. There is a suspension loop between the wings, which is pierced slightly off-centre. Copper-alloy horse harness pendant of medieval date (c. AD 1300 - 1400). The pendant is shield-shaped, with a circular suspension loop positioned centrally along the top edge. The front of the pendant has a heraldic design in relief: the shield is separated into three horizontal bands, the upper and lower of which are hachured, while the middle band contains three quatrefoils in a row. It is possible that the object was once enamelled, although no trace remains of this. However, interpolation from a similar pendant (Francois Xavier-Bon) allows us to suggest that it may be blazoned: Gul…
