The external face of the hoop has an engraved Latin inscription in black-letter (or 'Gothic') script. Cast copper-alloy sword, knife or dagger pommel, likely dating to the medieval period. The pommel is hexagonal in form with a flat top at the centre of which is a sub-rectangular void. Two sub-ovoid knops emerge opposite one another from the edge, extending down slightly into the sides of the hexagon shaped pommel. The sides are slanted slighty inward so that the pommel tapers slightly in width as it nears the bottom edge. Near to this bottom edge is a incised double line border with transverse vertical lines inside. The bottom is open.
