A copper alloy Roman sestertius of the emperor Nerva (AD 96-98), Reece period 5, LIBERTAS PVBLICA S C reverse type depicting Libertas standing facing left holding her right arm out in front of her with a triangular object in her right hand which could be a pileus or brimless pointed felt cap. The obverse bears the head of the emperor facing right with a long neck, a strongly hooked nose and two ribbons streaming from behind his head. The edges of the coin have broken off so that the legends are missing and the coin is now a very irregular in shape. Cf. BMC Vol.III, p.20, pl.5, fig.8, …

Silver Roman denarius of Trajan (AD 98-117), Reece period 5, COS V P P S P Q R OPTIMO PRINC reverse type depicting Roma helmeted in military dress seated left with straight spear in left hand, mint of Rome. The coin has been damaged on both faces, probably by fire as the surface has sheared away from the core, so perhaps during a cremation. Cf.
