Silver cut halfpenny of Edward IV, First and Second Reign (1461-1470 & 1471-1483), an Archiepiscopal issue of the Archdiocese of York. The obverse bears the right hand side of the king's head facing with a key to the right of the neck, no mark on the breast and the inscription EDWARD.The reverse inscription reads CIVI/[TAS/EBO]/RACI which indicates the mint was Eboraci (York). The reverse is very worn and the long cross and pellets have largely been rubbed away, and it is not possible to distinguish whether the cross has a quatrefoil in the centre as would be expected. The Archbishops…

A fragment of a silver long cross penny, half of it missing and clipped round the edge. Very little is visible on the obverse, but the reverse is from the York mint, with a plain quatrefoil in the centre of the cross (without central cross or pellet). None of the letters are legible. This form of reverse belongs to coins minted at York, either in the reign of Henry IV (light coinage 1412-1413) or Henry VI (First reign, 1427-1430) according to Wren (1995, pp.105 & 113).

A silver penny of Henry V (1413-1422), probably Class C, York mint. A third of the coin is missing having broken off. The obverse bears a crowned head facing with a bifoliate crown and a mullet to the left of the crown. The inscription is [hENRIC DI] GRA [REX ANG]. The reverse has a long cross with three pellets in each quadrant and a quatrefoil in the centre. The inscription would have read CIVI/TAS/EBO/RACI, but only the last four letters remain.

Silver cut half of a short cross penny of King John (1199-1216), Class Vb2 (1205-1207), with one corner broken off. The bust is only partially visible, but the condition of the coin is good, and the two ringlets with pellets in the centre at the side of the head, the fine even strokes representing the beard and the division by the hand holding the sceptre of the word REX between the R and EX on the obverse indicate the coin belongs to Class Vb, and because the remaining eye is not broken it has to be Class Vb2, which dates it from 1205 to 1207. The part of the inscription on the rever…

An archepiscopal issue of Archbishop Neville of York when he was restored from 1475-1476.
