A near complete cast copper-alloy late Early Medieval stirrup-strap mount, dating to the 11th century AD (c.AD 1000-1100)  o Williams (1997) Class A: Type unclassified. The mount is made of a a damaged trapezoidal plate with two diagonally projecting arms extending from the corners of the widest terminal giving it a broadly sub-triangular plan. The plate section of the pieces is slightly crescent shaped in cross section being convex on its outer surface and concave on its reverse. A gold Early-Medieval pseudo-Imperial solidus of Justinian I (AD 527-565), dating to the period c.AD 527-565. Obverse: D N IVSTINI-ANVS P P NC, Helmeted and cuirassed bust facing, holding globe cruciger and shield. Reverse: VICTORI-A AVGGG, Angel standing facing holding chrismon topped staff and globe cruciger, a star to the right. Mintmark: - *//CONOC (C reversed) Diameter: 21mm; Weight: 4.43g. For the official prototype of Justinian from Constantinople cf. MIBE p.113, no. 7. This is probably a Merovingian pseudo-Imperial issue, cf. Belfort no. 5234passim.
