Description: Middle to Late Saxon silver strap-end. Broadly rectangular in form, the split end has a scalloped edge with two rivet holes housing silver rivets with roved-over ends. The central panel is divided into two by a longitudinal beaded ridge. On either side is an asymmetrical recessed field and a teardrop-shaped field, possibly intended to depict a wing, which tapers to meet a roundel around each rivet hole. Incomplete Late Saxon - medieval probable strap end dating to the period c. AD 900 - 1100. Only a small fragment survives, with heavily worn transverse breaks on both sides. The asymmetrical relief decoration, present on the front face only, shows foliage inhabited by (part of) a stylised animal within a frame of short transverse grooves on the sides and of oblique grooves in a cable pattern across the edge. Over all is a series of randomly applied punched annulets. Probably of Thomas Class E, Type uncertain. Similar in form to NMS-E11836 & NMS-570BDA.

Medieval copper alloy composite strap end dating to the period c. AD 1300 - 1400. It comprises two rectangular sheet metal plates, both terminating in old breaks at the front end.Both plates taper slightly just before the break. The frot plate is engraved with a double zig-zag line. Between the plates is a full-width spacer which narrows towards the front end into a pair of opposed rounded cut-outs in the sides before an elaborate trefoil knop with a central rivet hole. Copper alloy fragment from a composite strap end of medieval date (c. AD 1200 - 1500). The fragment comprises three irregularly shaped pieces of sheet copper alloy, all of which are incomplete due to old breaks on all edges.
