Medieval sheet copper alloy composite buckle plate dating to the period c. AD 1200 - 1450. It comprises two rectangular sheet copper alloy plates, both with a central circular aperture, possibly for a missing separate decorative element. The short edge of each plate exhibits a central circular notch. The two plates are held together by four rivets, one at each corner, the ends roved over. Sandwiched between the two plates are traces of a woven textile, now off-white in colour. See: Egan & Pritchard, 2002, p. 113, no. 517 - 520.

Late Saxon - medieval copper alloy single loop buckle dating to the period c. AD 1000 - 1100. D-shaped frame with narrowed strap bar, knops at the shoulders and a trilobed projection on the outer edge. The front is decorated with two engraved grooves running down each side, the tips of which overlap at the trilobed projection. See: SF-A7D2D9 & SWYOR-22FFC7. Medieval copper alloy annular buckle or brooch dating to the period c. AD 1300 - 1400. Plain, oval-sectioned circular frame with no constriction for the pin. The pin is square-sectioned with a ridged collar at the junction with the frame. It forms an open loop whcih has been hooked around the frame, allowing the pin to travel freely around the circumference. See: Egan & Pritchard, 2002, p. 57 - 59.

The attachment end is bifurcated by a triangular cut-out to form two tabs, each pierced by a rivet hole containing the corroded remains of an iron rivet. The front of the plate exhibits an engraved design, now heavily worn. The front edge exhibits a sharply downturned break. Traces of white metal coating are visible. Similar examples are discussed in Whitehead (1996), p. 21.

Incomplete medieval copper alloy buckle plate dating to the period c. AD 1250 - 1450. Sheet plate, broken across one short edge. There is an off-centre rivet hole retaining the corroded remains of an iron rivet. The front exhibits an engraved design comprising a central panel with an indistinct foliate or zoomorphic motif, the background hatched. This is surrounded by an engraved line border on three sides. The back end of the plate is engraved with a series of horizontal dashes. Similar examples are discussed in Whitehead (1996), p. 21.

Post medieval double loop buckle dating to the period c. AD 1540 - 1650. Central narrowed strap bar with a knop at either end. A D-shaped loop projects from either side, each outer edge moulded into a flower-shaped knop. The back is flat. Traces of iron staingin are visible on the strap bar and on one side of the frame, possibly from the missing pin. Buckles of this form are generally assigned a late 16th century date (cf. Egan 2005, 35; ref. 88). The type must pre-date 1545 as it was found on the Mary Rose (Gardiner ed. 2005, 104; ref. 82A5069).

Broken across the frame recess and with two rivet holes near the attachment end, one of which is worn through. The face is decorated with a fantastic beast rampant to sinister reserved on a field of blue enamel. Trapezoidal front plate 47.1mm in length and 24.2mm in width with recessed edges for the frame and a central rectangular slot for the pin. The plate is folded to accommodate the missing strap bar. The front plate exhibits six rivet holes, two of which retain dome-headed rivets. The back plate is narrowed to c. 15.5mm in width and exhibits four rivet holes. Sheet copper alloy folded around the strap bar of the buckle with separate sheets soldered to the long edges to create a hollow plate. A rectangular slot houses the pin. The open attachment end is cut to form a crescentic recess. It exhibits a single rivet with roved over ends sitting flush with the surface of the plate. The pin has an expanded rectangular collar and tapers to a rounded tip. See: Egan & Pritchard, 2002, p. 78.
