A copper alloy gilded medieval or post-medieval buckle plate, dating to period AD 1400- 1700. The plate is formed from a rectangular sheet of copper-alloy which has been folded in upon itself. There ia recess for the pin. The plate have five perforations which would have held 5 rivets, holding both sheets of copper alloy in place. Three of of these five rivets are still intact, the rest are either completely missing or partially damaged. An incomplete copper-alloy medieval annular buckle dating to AD 1400 - 1500. The buckle has its central bar, but the pin is missing. It is circular in shape, with a sub-rectangular cross-section. It is rather smooth in texture and holds a green patina with black marks that may be traces of black lacquer. The buckle is rather small, coming 21.74mm in diameter, 2.40mm thick and weighs 3.02g. Whitehead (2003) "Buckles 1250-1800" illustrates a very similar buckle p46 no269. This would have been a waist or sword belt buckle.

There are two broken protrusion on the corners, which could suggest evidence of decorative knopped corners. An incomplete copper alloy double looped buckle dating to the period AD c. 1350 to c. 1650. The pin is missing, but its attachment point is till on the central bar. It has a rectangular cross section narrowed strap bar. The hoops are D shape in cross section. Overall. the item is very worn and the pins attachment point shows evidence of iron corrosion. It is 28.88mm in height, 21.37mm in width, and weighs 4.17g. Please see Whitehead (2003), page 53, No. 291 for an example. The date is broad because this type of plain spectacle buckle is very common (Whitehead 2003).

The type of this is buckle is double loop asymmetrical, and it has two sections, a D shape and rectangular. On the D shape loop, the edges are bevelled, and there is also a decorated moulded knop on the far edge. The rectangular section and the central bars edges remain unbevelled, and both are not decorated. The length of this buckle is 18.39mm the width is 13.42mm and the weight is 1.33g. Please see Whitehead (2003) "Buckles" page 92 for similar designs.

The outer edge of the buckle expands towards the pin rest and terimates with two projecting circular knops flanking the recess to hold the pin. The loop is decorated with triangular punches. The punches are a series of straight and transverse lines. Two triangle shapes on the center of the plate are created with this design. The height of the bucke is 27.83mm and the width is 1.67mm.The buckle weighs 1.67g.

The loop has an expanded oval epansion flanked by a raised ridge in the centre of the loop, on the left hand side. To the right no clear break is visible on the oval expansion. The loop expands to a broadly rectangular terminal which beears similarities to a recessed pin bar on single loop buckles. No definitive break is visible.

A medieval copper alloy integral plate spur buckle dating to AD 1250-1500. The buckle has an oval shape frame with a notch at the central top point and also with a rectangular section attached to it. There are four diagonal grooves two on each frame band all following the same direction.The edges of this buckle are all smooth. The pin is missing. The rectangular section of the buckle remains undecorated and has two circular perforations, the rivets are missing. A good comparison of this buckle can be found in "Buckles" (2003) Ross Whitehead page 33 No.186.
