Object type: TEGULA
Broad period: ROMAN
County: Wiltshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A ceramic fragment of a Roman tegula, dating to the period AD 43- AD 410.
The fragment is irregular in shape, and is damaged significantly across it edges and faces, but it is evident that from the base of the fragment two edges taper to a point, which unfortunately does not exist. The fragment is well oxidized due to the orange pallor, and has no visible inclusions, but the black does show wear and tear over time.
The dimensions of this object are approximate due to irregular faces and edges. The height is c. 20.05mm, the width is c. 15.72mm and the weight is 9.95g.

On the parallel edge to this is a row of three rivet holes, two of which have kept their rivets, the other just an empty perforation. The rivets are evenly spaced apart. The whole object remains undecorated, but the anterior surface holds a smooth and shiny finish.
The length of the object is 40.59mm, the width is 23.35mm and the thickness is 1.17mm. The object weighs 12.75g.…

A fragment of a medieval coarse ware tile, dating to the period AD 1250 - AD 1500
The fragments manufactured with an evident grog temperate with very little inclusions. The fragment has oxidised well as the dominant colour is orange, but there is also a visible reduced dark grey core.
The design of the tile is inlaid, and it can be suggested that this was most likely achieved when the clay was in a plastic state. The design kind on the tile is scrolling foliage with a curved boarder. Judging by the shape of the tile, it was originally a four sided shaped, potentially used for fl…

Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A fragment of a ceramic Roman tegula roof tile dating to the period AD 43- 410.
The fragment of the tile has a visible arch to it, which would have enabled the tiles to interlock with each other. The fragment is well oxidized, with exception to a black reduced core, has a strong orange colour and has a few visible inclusions. The shape is rather irregular due to the breakages, but due to the arch, it can be suggested that the tile was utilized for roofing.
The length of the fragment is c. 117.57mm; the width is c. 88.35mm, the thickness is 20.76mm and the weight is 296.57g.

Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
An incomplete cast copper-alloy medieval to post medieval double looped buckle, dating to the period AD c.1350-c.1650.
