A fragment of a Roman copper alloy spoon, dating to AD 43-410. The stem is missing,a small fragment remains of the drop elbow attachment of the stem to the bowl. The stem is rectangular in cross section and in shape. Only a small fragment of the bowl survives, but the "dishing" of it still clear from the elbow attachment. There is also a small fragment of the rim of the bowl which is incomplete The object weighs: 1.76g Maximum width: 14.88mm Maximum height: 20.64mm

A fragment of a Roman cast copper alloy spoon with a mandolin-shaped bowl of Crummy 1983, Type 3 dating to the late Roman period AD 250-300. The handle is lozenge in shape and cross section and reflects an un-natural bend at c.90 degrees. There are breaks at both ends and only a tiny stub of the bowl remains. The section of the handle before it drops to is decorated with a small series of indents (three in total). The last section of the handle drops and curl inwards creating a "C" shape. An incomplete late Roman copper alloy spoon fragment dating to AD 200-410. The shape of the spoon is oval, and its edges are rough and rather jagged due to corrosion of the metal, excluding the base edge which remains in fair condition. At the top, the attachment to which the shaft would have been still exists, but the shaft and the probe end are missing. There are two small rounded perforations which puncture all the way through the material and there is evidence of gilded silver on both anterior and posterior surfaces.
