A medieval copper alloy harness pendant with an offset suspension loop. The pendant is a Type 5 with open work, with a cross which has bifurcated ends. The pendant has a complete and offset suspension loop. The open work of the cross is not adjacent to the suspension loop. The pendant appears to be plain and not gilded or tinned.
Nick Griffiths (1986) comments that poorer quality manufacturing of pendants (including heraldic types) suggests that they were not made for dispay on horses for the nobility. It is more likely they were used by trappings, for the horses of retainers, bail…

A complete copper alloy harness pendant dating between the period AD 1300- AD 1400.
The pendant is shield shaped in plan with an offset perforated loop extending perpendicularly from the top. The posterior surface of the pendant is undecorated, smooth and slightly concave, whereas the anterior surface is decorated with three chevrons decorated with red (gules) enamel. The design is only just visibly and is rather worn. Evidence of gilding remains in place.
The harness pendant 46.94mm in length, 29.91mm wide (maximum) and weighs 14.90g.

A complete copper alloy horse harness pendant dating to the medieval period AD 1300- 1400.
The object is lozenge in shape with a circular suspension loop. This is currently damaged, and the perforation is filled with iron corrosion. There is evidence of potential red enamel, but the majority has worn away. Despite this, the Royal Arms of England's design consisting of three lions facing left can still be seen.
The height of the pendant is 43.03mm, the width is 28.87mm, the thickness is 3mm and the weight is 11.80g.
