An of post-medieval copper alloy probable balance, similar items have also been recorded as sugar or spice tongs. The surviving section consists of a fragment of the stem and the expanded terminal. The stem is circular in cross section and expands into the terminal. The terminal is broadly consistant with a scallop shell and some decoration is visible on the outer face. The outerfact is convex, the inner face has a circular recess and is therefore concave.
