A Iron Age or Roman copper alloy fragment of a strip bow brooch, (Aucissa derivative) dating to the 1st century AD. The fragment is the wings, a small part of the head and the bow. The head of the bow should roll downwards on a strip bow brooch, with this example the head rolls upwarda although this appears to be damage rather than design. The bow is decorated the two grooves, which are filled with tiny incisions. The grooves start at the widest point of the bow, and finish just before the bow narrows to the foot which has broken off. A fragment of an Iron Age La Tene type I brooch dating to the period c.400- c.200 BC. The fragment consist of a part of the head, the bow and part of the foot. The head comprises of the ends point of the bow and is thinner compared to the rest of the bow. The fragment bends as a right angle and immediately increases in thickness at the angle. The bow is smooth, cylindrical in cross section and gradually narrows and tapers to the foot. The foot bends at an obtuse angle and flicks out at its tip. The whole fragment remains undecorated. An incomplete copper alloy Iron Age to Roman Colchester one piece type brooch, dating to the period AD 25-60. The bow, the wings and the incomplete catchplate survive. The wings are broadly rectangular and are 14.5mm wide, they are rectangular in cross setion. The loop and initial projection for the spring particually survive, the remainder of the spring and pin are missing. A fully complete copper alloy late Iron Age or Roman strip bow brooch, dating to the period AD 25-70. The wings of the brooch are tubular in shape and in cross section which fold and then roll forward. Within this component is the central aperture and the pin. The pin remains fully intact to the brooch and moves freely. The head extends downwards at approximately 45 degrees, and taper inwards as it reaches the bow. An Iron Age La Tene I type brooch dating to the period c. 400 - 200 BC. The head consists of an integrally cast spring with a chord and four loops wrapped around a copper alloy axis bar. The fourth loop becomes the pin and passes under the chord before tapering to a point. The body arches upwards from the head at almost 90 degrees and widens along its length. It has a convex obvese and a slightly concave reverse.
