An incomplete cast made, copper alloy double loop post-medieval buckle dating to the period AD c.1500-c.1650. The surviving loop is a simple oval design with bevelled edges. There are two broken protrusion on the corners, which could suggest evidence of decorative knopped corners. The central bar is securely attached to the plate by two small separate wraps of copper alloy. The body of the plate has two rivets on both its surfaces, and it is clear to see the singular fold of material. The plate starts narrows and then bulbs outwards to create and circular terminal. The end of the p…

It has a rectangular cross section narrowed strap bar. The hoops are D shape in cross section. Overall. the item is very worn and the pins attachment point shows evidence of iron corrosion. It is 28.88mm in height, 21.37mm in width, and weighs 4.17g. Please see Whitehead (2003), page 53, No. 291 for an example. The date is broad because this type of plain spectacle buckle is very common (Whitehead 2003).

An incomplete cast copper-alloy medieval to post medieval double looped buckle, dating to the period AD c.1350-c.1650. (I want to put a later start date but have no reason as to why it should) It is incomplete insofar as the pin is missing. The buckle is oval in shape, measuring 19.29mm in length, 35.23mm in width and 2.43mm thick. It weighs 5.15g. The frame is slightly recessed from the front, and has no discernible decoration on either side. There are parallels in Whitehead (2003) p53, particularly no.292, but considering the lack of detail on this buckle a parallel is largely spec…

The buckle has moulded roundels on the outer edge of each loop, and at either end of the strap bar. On the roundels on the both the outer edges is a flower design. The pin majority of the pin is missing, but the attachment end is visible, but highly corroded. The buckle does not lie flat, neither does it balance on its central strap bar. This is due to the inward bend of both loops. Overall, the buckle is 43.21mm in…

The inferior surface remains undecorated, and so does the anterior surface, with exception to transverse grooves on the two opposite rounded knops. There is one grove on each knop and…
