An iron spherical object, probably dating to the later post-medieval/ early-modern period, of uncertain function. It weighs 136.29g and measures 33.17mm in diameter. The patina is rough and pitted, and dark brown in colour.
PAS colleague Sue Walker suggests '[It] could be from an 18th -19th century lawn cannon, most of them have quite small muzzles but nonetheless are fully functional. Or it could be just the decorative shot that sits next to one'. Peter Reavill comments that iron balls such as this were used as a grinding mechanism in mills.
