It consists of an etui (case), the lid, the inkwell/base, the pen and a possible quill/unidentified organic material. The lid is cylindrical and hollow, measuring 22.79mm in length, 13.79mm in width, and weighs 3.92g. At the top there is a moulded ridge, and two concentric bands, parallel to one another, beneath it. An incomplete lead-alloy post medieval two-disc cloth seal, dating to the period AD 1500-1700. It measures 21.55mm in diameter and weighs 5.22g. This cloth seal is most likely comprised of two discs. On the outside of the cloth seal there are the letters I and H separated by an elongated number 4 conjoined with a letter W. There is no further discernible decoration on the cloth seal. To the reverse is a projecting rivet.

The patina is rough and pitted, and dark brown in colour. PAS colleague Sue Walker suggests '[It] could be from an 18th -19th century lawn cannon, most of them have quite small muzzles but nonetheless are fully functional. A post-medieval silver open thimble of probable 17th century date. The body of the thimble is formed from a strip of sheet metal, 0.74mm thick, wrapped around to form a cylinder. The two ends no longer join and leave a gap which measures 0.48mm at the top and 1.98mm at the base. In shape, the cylinder tapers towards the top. The thimble is now squashed into an irregular sub-oval. It may have originally had a domed top. The inner surface of the cylinder is undecorated except for a maker's mark, a ligated AB. A complete cast silver post-medieval (c.1500-c.1800) seal matrix. It weighs 8.83g, measuring 21.42mm in length and 16.76mm in width. The seal matrix has oval face which tapers inwards to a narrowly conical handle and terminates in a circular loop. The juncture between the handle and the loop is marked by two circumferential raised collars. Extending down from these raised collars is a band of hexagonally-faceted ribs, on one of these ribs is the maker's mark. The head of the nail (0.8mm thick) has been bent, but is sexfoil in shape (20.25mm in length and 18.78mm in width). An incised circle (diameter of 5.69mm) outlines the top of the shank at the centre. It measures 44.82mm in length and 15.87mm in width, the thickness of the fitting is 1.56mm, but the loop is 9.06mm thick. It also weighs 6.09g. The fitting consists of an oval loop, measuring 4.78mm. An incomplete copper-alloy post-medieval oval double loop buckle frame, which is missing its pin and a small section of one of the loops. It measures 37.17mm in height and 33.30mm in width, the interior of the loop measures 11.16mm in diameter and weighs 5.44g. The loops of the buckle are symmetrical and smooth. The outside is the thickest part of the frame, with the strap bar being the thinnest (at 2.50mm). The strap bar extends upwards to an elongated loop (which measures at 10.51mm high and 3.06mm thick). It is no. 449, p72 of Whitehead.

An incomplete cast copper alloy post medieval buckle, c. 1550-1650. The frame has a slightly thicker outer edge and incised decoration, missing its pin. Overall the buckle measures 35.58mm long, 39.38mm wide and 2.03mm thick. The internal measurement of a loop is 21.07mm long and 9.64mm wide. The frame is D shaped in cross section and has bevelled edges. On both loops the outer edges there are three traverse grooves where the pin would have sat. The buckle is similar in style and decoration to one illustrated in Whitehead 2001 (p. 54, no. 302).

A complete copper-alloy double-looped trapezoidal buckle of post-medieval date. The buckle is trapezoidal in shape with lobed protrusions at either end of the pin bar. Each outer edge is pointed. The outside edge of the buckle is bevelled while the lower surface is flat. The buckle dates from around 1620 to 1680 AD. Whilst undecorated, in form the buckle is similar to an example illustrated in Whitehead (1996, 82; ref. 513).
