Five, probably type 4, medieval horseshoes and four spikes, possibly for the removal of horseshoes, dating to the period AD 1250-1550. Only one horseshoe may have a nail in situ, but otherwise the horseshoes are complete. It is unlikely that these were from the same horse, not just because there are five, but due to the different sizes and weights of each shoe. Clark's "The Medieval Horse and its Equipment" (1995) indicates that horses were not always shod on all four feet (p76), but on two instead. This would also support the conclusion that these shoes were not all from one animal. …
