An incomplete middle to late early-medieval copper-alloy strap end, dating to the period 750-1050. It is a Thomas Class B, Type 1, characterised by transverse mouldings and a possible zoomorphic terminal. The strap end measures 37.61mm in length and 8.62mm in width. It has a split end and slightly tapering shaft. It is difficult to ascertain on this particular strap-end whether the terminal is zoomorphic as the moulding is very worn. Of the split end only the reverse plate remains, the front appearing to have been broken in antiquity as the break is worn. There is a chance it may neve…

A complete late early-medieval, copper-alloy zoomorphic strap-end, dating to the period 1000-1100. It is a strap-end of Thomas' Class G, measuring 33.49mm in length and 10.16mm at maximum width. It is parallel-sided with a wedge-shaped split end but missing most of its openwork tongue which would have depicted a sinuous beast with an asymmetrically interlaced body. This would have emerged from the protruding animal mask located at the narrower end of the wedge-shaped body, opposite to the split end. At this point (just before the mask) the body is at its narrowest, measuring 5.87mm wi…
