Object type: POLISHED AXEHEAD
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Warwickshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A near complete Neolithic polished stone axe/axehead, dating to c. 4000 - 2200 BC. The axehead is formed from a fine grained volcanic tuff, possibly from Langdale although it is not as fine grained as other examples.  It is impossible to say for certain without petrological analysis of the rock. The axe is a pointed oval shape in plan with a wide crescent shaped cutting edge. All the knapping scars have been removed through polishing. The butt end is incomplete and has a small section missing. The cutting edge is also damaged, there is a large semi-circular missing…

A late Neolithic to early Bronze Age flint waste flake (debitage) dating to circa 3300 - 1600 BC. The flint is mid-grey coloured. The dorsal surface has two large scars on the left side and a number of smaller scars which are obliquely angled on the right side. The ventral surface is smooth and has ripples extending from the bulb of percussion.  The flint measures 37.8 mm long, 32.5 mm wide, and 7.4 mm thick. It weighs 8.8 grams.

Two late Neolithic to early Bronze Age flint waste flakes dating to circa 3300 - 1600 BC. The first is sub-oval formed from a secondary flake. Cortex remains on one short edge and one long edge. The flint is semi-translucent and brown in colour. Conchoidal ripple marks are present on the dorsal face. The ventral face has a prominent bulb of percussion. The object measures 27.9 mm in length,  16.5 mm in width, 6.7 mm in width and weighs 3.6 grams.  The second is irregular in form. A small amount of cortex is visible on one lo…

Object type: LEAF ARROWHEAD
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Warwickshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
An incomplete Neolithic flint 'leaf' arrowhead (c. 4000 BC-c. 2350 BC). It is difficult to establish the original shape of the arrowhead due to the proximal and distal ends being damaged and incomplete. The arrowhead has been bifacially worked from a tertiary flake. The retouch is covering, scaled and low angled. The flint is a translucent cream/brown colour.  The arrowhead measures 27. 2 mm in length, 18.6 mm in width, 3.8 mm in thickness and weighs 2.2 grams.

Object type: KNIFE
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Derbyshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A knapped lithic implement of Neolithic date, circa 2700 BC - 2350 BC. The object is formed from possible course chert or flint. The implement is a possible knife or borer and is sub-triangular in form and formed on a tertiary flake of debitage. Short, scaled, semi-abrupt retouch is present along all three sides on the dorsal face. The ventral face has one large flake removal scar and a smaller broadly rectangular shaped removal. A broadly triangular shaped removal is possibly a modern scar. There is some invasive, scaled retouch at the distal end on the ventral face. Peter Rea…

Object type: AXEHEAD
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Leicestershire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A polished stone axehead fragment of Neolithic date, circa (3500-2100 BC). The object is a polished volcanic stone with a green/grey colour probably from the Langdale region. The fragment consists of the cutting edge with the lower section and butt end missing. The axe head is broadly sub-rectangular in plan and oval in cross section with flattened long edges. In plan the sides of the axe taper and widen from the blade to the broken edge. Both long edges taper fairly evenly and have well defined side facets which extend from the cutting edge to the broken edge. The cutting edge is fa…

Object type: LITHIC IMPLEMENT
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Staffordshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A knapped flint core formed into a rod like implement, dating to late Neolithic (c. 3300BC-2200 BC). The object is of uncertain function. The flake is lentoid in plan, and oval in cross section. The object has a rounded pointed end and a rounded squared butt. The flake is bifacially worked with invasive, scaled, semi-abrupt re-touch. The flake is cream to grey in colour. There is also evidence the flake has plough rolled. The flake measures 73.3 mm in length, 25 mm wide and 17.5 mm thick. It weighs 36.59 g.

A complete knapped or flaked flint leaf shaped arrowhead, of Neolithic dating (c. 3500 BC to c. 2500 BC). The arrowhead is leaf shaped in plan, consisting of a pointed oval shape.. It has been made from a piece of tertiary debitage as no cortex (outer rind) is visible on either the dorsal (upper) and ventral (lower) faces. It measures 44 mm in length, 21 mm wide and 3 mm thick. It weighs 4.5 g. The arrowhead has been made from a grey coloured flint and is opaque. Green, H.S. 1980. The Flint Arrowheads of the British Isles. BAR British Series 75(i).Oxford.

Object type: RETOUCHED FLAKE
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Worcestershire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
An incomplete Mesolithic to Neolithic retouched flake, dating 10,000-2,350 BC. The flake is triangular in form with retouch on both mesal sides. The bulb of percussion is visible on the ventral face, few other indicators of knapping are present. The type of retouch is short, sub-parallel and low-angled. Due to the incompleteness of this object it is difficult to further specify a period of production. Dimensions: length: 22.93 mm; width: 20.6 mm; thickness: 4.87 mm; weight: 1.6g.

Object type: SCRAPER (TOOL)
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Worcestershire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A flint scraper of probable later Neolithic or Early Bronze Age date (2700-1800 BC). The scraper is broadly oval in shape, knapped from a secondary flake. The upper dorsal face of the scraper exhibits a series of flake scars on the right hand side suggesting that this piece has been heavily worked / reworked. The ventral face is flat with a series of conchoidal ripples and the bulb of percussion present. The striking platform has been reworked. There is a small amount of cortex present on the left hand side of the dorsal face. The areas of retouch extend around 80% of the outer edges a…
