Broad period: UNKNOWN
County: South Gloucestershire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A utilised red/brown quartzite pebble, of uncertain date. The stone is sub-rectangualr in plan and cross section, a pair of perpendicular facts have been created through considerable battering damage, suggesting the use of the pebble as a hammerstone. The other faces of the pebble are more rounded, however at least two have been worn sufficiently flat to suggest intentional use as a rubber or polisher. Length 73.4mm; width 59.7mm; thickness 60.4mm; weight >300g.
