Only half of the head of the brooch has survived, and consists of three coils which would have been wrapped around the axis bar. The remaining coils and the pin are missing. A complete copper alloy mount dating to the Roman period (c. AD 43 - 410). The lower half of the mount is pelta or crescent-shaped, with curved tips. The central section of the crescent extends upwards and also terminates in curved tips, this creates 'C' shaped openwork on each side. The reverse is flat and has two large rivets, one on top of the other. The metal is very worn and mid green in colour. The strap fitting is 18.5 mm long, 18.2 mm wide and 5.2 mm thick. It weighs 2.5 g.
