A near complete worn Post-Medieval leather shoe. Description: It is of welt construction, where a strip of leather (welt) is stitched to an upper and insole of the shoe. The sole is then attached to it. The shoe has a rounded toe and the two piece upper is plain in design. There are stitch holes in the sole and welt. The sole remains attached to the insole and in fact looks like it was attached prior to the addition of the welt. Some of the leather thread used for stitching is still in place attaching the sole to the insole. The sole and insole remain in a complete state. The shoe …

A fragment of worn Medieval to Modern leather shoe. It is of uncertain design and date but likely medieval to post-medieval in date. The shoe remains only as one piece of hemispherical irregular leather, with sticking holes around the edge, the rounded side of the piece is folded down onto the inside of the shoe. It seems likely that this was an insole for a 'booty' type child's shoe. measurements: 63.51mm long, 24.25mm wide, 0.83mm thick and 9.74g in weight.

The sole of a Post Medieval leather shoe probably dating to the 16th- 17th century. Only the sole remains. The shoe was fairly straight-sided narrowing to a squared, blunt toe. There is a perforated ridge running around the outer edge of the sole which would have formed the seam by which it was attached to the upper, it has broken extensively around much of the seam. The heel section remains and is rounded. This shoe is very small and it seems likely that it belonged to a child. Similar shoes can be seen on the database, LON-C36893 and KENT-A29265. Measurements: 71.52mm long, 28.0…

An incomplete post medieval leather insole from a shoe dating AD1500-1550. This is an insole from aTudor Cowmouth type shoe, probably for an adult male. The insole has an expanded toe forming "ears" and straight sides tapering equally to the heel so it is impossible to identify whether it is for a right or left foot. Measurements: 172mm long, 42.82mm wide, 1.89mm thick and 38.87g in weight.
