A complete Post Medieval cast copper alloy trade weight, dating to between AD 1714 and AD 1760. The weight is circular in plan. The item's weight (0.484oz), suggests it was used as a half-ounce weight. The front face is recessed below a raised rim, and has three stamps; Crown over 'G' - the royal cypher, the sword of St Paul - the City of London Guildhall mark, and an ewer - The London Founders' Company mark. The relative positions of the stamps indicate it could have been made during the reigns of George I or George II (Read, 1995). The surfaces are worn and have a dark green patina.…

A Post-Medieval cast copper alloy pot foot, probably dating to AD 1500-1700. The fragment is sub rectangular in plan and D-shaped in cross section, with a flat back and convex front. The front is cast into five longitudinal ribs with a thick, corded transverse collar dividing the leg from the foot. Dimensions: length 50.5mm; width 29.9mm; thickness 18.1mm; weight 91.81g. Crudely made cast copper alloy vessels were widely used from c.1200-1700 for serving and cooking. Butler et al (2009:4) suggest there were four main types of leg used. Object type: TOKEN
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: Wiltshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A Post Medieval tin alloy token of James II (AD 1685-1688), dating to 1688. An "American plantations token", uncertain type. cf. examples published by Newman (1964: plate LVI). Such tokens were valued at one 24th of a Spanish real, or one and a half farthings. Minted in the closing months of James II's reign and intended for use in the colonies, it is doubtful that the tokens were ever officially authorised for circulation and there is no evidence they ever circulated in North America (Newman 1964: 324).

An incomplete late early-medieval copper-alloy strap-end, dating to between c. 900 and 1100. The item is a simple version of the Thomas class E, Type 1 'Winchester-style' strap-end, its design representing 'inhabited plant scrolls' (Thomas 2004). The more ornate and less common examples of this type have more intricate detail and zoomorphic elements. The item is tongue-shaped, with a raised relief and openwork terminated by a thick transverse bar, above which is a flat plate, recessed on the front, containing evidence of three perforations by which it was attached to a strap. A complete copper-alloy stirrup-strap mount of late early-medieval (Late Anglo-Saxon) date, or slightly later (c. 11th century). The mount can be classified as a Class A, Type 8 example, comparable with those at the more debased end of the spectrum catalogued by Williams (1997, 49; fig. 33; nos. 146-153). The mount is sub-triangular with two shallow small knops at the base, corresponding to the en-face animal heads that protrude from the base of such mounts. It has three rivet holes, two of which contain the corroded remains of iron rivets: those at the base. The rivet hole at the ape…
