A small bodysherd of a Medieval vessel dating to c. AD 1100-1500.  The fabric is a hard fired, rough and sandy with abundant translucent grey/white sandy quartz inclusions.  The outer surface is a buff colour and smooth with a row of vertical rouletted lines (and possibly a second row just visible).  The inner surface is a darker buff colour with some patches of darker grey and is rough and gritty.  The core is a darker unoxidised grey. A sherd from a roof tile dating to the post medieval date (cAD1600-1800).  The fabric is coarse with abundant small sandy inclusions with some large voids.  The fabric is dark orangey brown.  The tile is hard fired. The sherd comprises the corner of a tile and there is evidence of part of a circular nail hole.    Dimensions: 64mm in length, 57.9mm in width, 11.6mm in thickness, 68.47g in weight.

A sherd from a tile or possibly a vessel and probably of medieval/post medieval date (cAD1400-1800).  The sherd may be Verwood type pottery.  The fabric is fine with abundant small inclusions of sand, black quartz and red iron oxide.  The outer surface is oxidised to a pale pinky buff colour and the core is a reduced grey.  The pottery is hard fired.  There is evidence of abraded olive green glaze and the outer surface is decorated with two lines of three wavy combed lines which may be related to adhesion rather than decoration.    Dimensions: 5…

A ceramic body sherd from a crudely made medieval vessel dating to c. AD 1075-1250. Kennet Valley ware. The sherd has a grey fabric with iron rich inclusions as well as flint and organic material.  One surface has an applied red slip and the other may have evidence of cooking residue. Dimensions: length: 42.8mm; width: 33.9mm; thickness: 6.4mm; weight: 11.87g. Found a number of years ago by the finder. Thanks very much to Lorraine Mepham and Rachael Seager-Smith for assistance with identifying this sherd and dating it to the late 11th and 13th centuries.

Four bodysherds and two rim sherds of greyware dating to the Roman period c AD 43-402.  The sherds are oxisided and all are reddish orange although one sherd appears to have a grey slip on the outer surface.   The size of the sherds means that it is not possible to identify the form of the vessel types, although the rim sherds may be from an upright bowl.

A bodysherd from a New Forest ceramic vessel of the Roman period dating to c AD 250-402.  The sherd is wheel made fineware.  The fabric is a fine pinkish beige colour with occasional small iron oxide inclusions in a sandy matrix.  The surfaces are black slipped.  The size of the sherd means that it is not possible to identify the form of the vessel but it may have been a globular jug. Dimensions: length: 38.6mm; width: 29.6mm; thickness: 4.5mm; weight: 5.74g.

Three sherds of greyware dating to the Roman period c AD 43-410.  Two sherds are rims and one is a bodysherd.  One rim and the bodysherd come from a large storage vessel, the rim is beaded and these sherds may be Savernake ware.  These two sherds have a rough textured fabric and inclusions of crushed flint, red iron oxide and small sandy or quartz pieces.  They are hard fired. The third sherd is a rim of a small beaded jar.  The fabric is a buff white with numerous of black quartz, iron and possibly pieces of grog.  The vessel is hard fired.

A fragment of ceramic strainer/colander or cheese press of uncertain date, probably Roman or Post-Medieval, c.AD 43-410 or c.AD 1500-1800. The fragment is sub-triangular with irregularly sized and spaced circular apertures are pierced across the sherd. It is otherwise undecorated. The ceramic fabric is reddish orange with evidence of darker slip and numerous small sandy inclusions. It is not possible to ascribe a specific period to this object based on this fabric type.

A medieval pottery rim sherd of Laverstock type ware dating to c 1200-1350.  The sherd  formed part of the rim of a large jar.  The rim measures 32.54mm across.  It has been pale fired and oxidised and the inner fabric is a slightly pinky orange colour with the outer fabric a buff white with a pale olive green glaze on the inner surface and on the rim.  The glaze is covered in tiny reddish brown spots.   There are a few reddish brown and sandy inclusions.

A medieval pottery sherd of Laverstock type fineware dating to c 1200-1350.  The sherd has been pale fired and oxidised and is a buff, pinky orange with a khaki-green glaze on one side and some fragmentary evidence of a similar colour glaze on the other side.  The glaze is uneven and the striations of combing are evident.  There are a few sandy inclusions and evidence of organic inclusions.
