A dispersed hoard of five Post Medieval silver coins found at a depth of 4-6 inches. The hoard consists of two silver groats of Mary I, together with two silver sixpences and a silver shilling of Elizabeth I.  The coins were found in an area of cultivated land but it has transpired that the earth was from spoil that had been moved there from elsewhere (approximately 1.5km away) during building works for the extension of a car park at a commercial premises. The find spot given to the Coroner was where the coins were found with a metal detector. It has not been possible for the find…

A silver groat of Elizabeth I dating to the period AD 1558-1561. The groat appears to have been cut in half, although the coin is well worn and may simply have been damaged.
