Minerva walking right with spear and shield, with S to her left and C to her right. Robert Kenyon, following on from the work by the French scholars P-A. Besombes and M. Bompaire (in Trésors Monétaires XXI, 2005), is working through the British examples of Claudian coinage recorded through the PAS assigning many so-called Claudian contemporary copies to Roman auxiliary mints which operated at Lyons (Gaul) and in Spain. A base silver or plated contemporary copy of a silver denarius of Claudius I (AD 41-54), dating to the period c.AD 41-42 (Reece period 2). Reverse type depicting IMPER.RECEPT on top of a battlemented wall enclosing a praetorian camp in which soldier stands with spear in right hand, aquila in front of him, behind him a pediment with fortified walls.
