An incomplete medieval copper alloy single loop buckle dating to c AD 1250-1400.  The buckle is trapezoidal in shape and is decorated with three lobed knops on the outer edges and centre of the front of the frame.  The central knop is larger and decorated with incised lines flaring out from the central pin rest.  At the opposite end there is evidence of the depressed markings created by the pin on the strap bar.  The pin is now missing. A post medieval copper alloy rectangular buckle dating to c AD1720-1790.  The buckle is complete.  The buckle comprises a rectangular frame which has been drilled through in the centre of the shorter side and a double spiked spindle inserted.  The buckle may have been tinned.  This type of buckle may have been used to fasten garters on boots.  The buckle has no chape.  Dimensions: 19.5mm length; 16.5mm width; 2.8mm thickness; 2.23g weight. cf. A post-medieval copper alloy double looped buckle, probably dating to c. AD 1500-1650. The buckle comprises of one of originally two oval loops from a symmetrical buckle frame, wit a narrowed bar flanked by knops. The copper alloy wire in survives in situ, wrapped around the bar. The front of the frame is decorated with cast foliate or 'vinescroll' decoration.
