An incomplete medieval copper alloy single loop buckle dating to c AD 1250-1400.  The buckle is trapezoidal in shape and is decorated with three lobed knops on the outer edges and centre of the front of the frame.  The central knop is larger and decorated with incised lines flaring out from the central pin rest.  At the opposite end there is evidence of the depressed markings created by the pin on the strap bar.  The pin is now missing. A post medieval copper alloy rectangular buckle dating to c AD1720-1790.  The buckle is complete.  The buckle comprises a rectangular frame which has been drilled through in the centre of the shorter side and a double spiked spindle inserted.  The buckle may have been tinned.  This type of buckle may have been used to fasten garters on boots.  The buckle has no chape.  Dimensions: 19.5mm length; 16.5mm width; 2.8mm thickness; 2.23g weight. cf. Whitehead (2003: 114) no 733.

An incomplete post medieval copper alloy double loop oval buckle dating to c AD1550-1650.  The buckle frame is complete but missing its pin.  The buckle comprises a trilobed, trefoil with two blind holes on the outer edge of each loop and a lobed knop at either end of the central strap bar.  Dimensions: 43.1mm length; 22mm width; 2.4mm thickness; 2.22g weight. cf: Whitehead (2003: 64) no 393.

A medieval cast copper alloy D-shaped buckle dating to c AD1250-1500.  The buckle is complete and comprises a single D-shaped loop with a narrowed and offset strap bar.  There is a copper alloy pin which is fixed by folding the end around the strap bar.  Dimensions: 16.07mm width; 13.16mm length; 2.02mm thickness; 1.16g weight. cf: Whitehead (2003: 19) no 54.

An early medieval incomplete Borre style buckle dating to c AD 900-1050.  The object is a zoomorphic single-loop buckle frame which is missing its pin and the pin retaining bar.  The frame is bent but was originally D-shaped with Borre-style animal heads at the ends of the bar and the mid point of the outer edge.  The frame is D-shaped in cross-section and, although very worn, retains traces of stamped decoration along both edges (possibly stamped triangles).  All three animal head knops have tapering, snub-nosed muzzles with large, rounded ears at th…

A medieval copper alloy buckle plate dating to c AD 1200-1400. The buckle plate is incomplete and is bent and damaged. The remnant of the buckle plate comprises a rectangular sheet of copper alloy. The attachment end is truncated in line with two rivet holes, with a third, central rivet hole below the buckle end. Beyond the central rivet hole are the truncated remnants of one of the recessed hooks that looped over the offset bar of the buckle frame and then looped back down to the central rivet. The object comprises an ovoid frame with hooks extending from each of the long sides of the oval frame. A post-medieval copper alloy double looped buckle, probably dating to c. AD 1500-1650. The buckle comprises of one of originally two oval loops from a symmetrical buckle frame, wit a narrowed bar flanked by knops. The copper alloy wire in survives in situ, wrapped around the bar. The front of the frame is decorated with cast foliate or 'vinescroll' decoration.
