An incomplete medieval copper alloy single loop buckle dating to c AD 1250-1400.  The buckle is trapezoidal in shape and is decorated with three lobed knops on the outer edges and centre of the front of the frame.  The central knop is larger and decorated with incised lines flaring out from the central pin rest.  At the opposite end there is evidence of the depressed markings created by the pin on the strap bar.  The pin is now missing. A post medieval copper alloy rectangular buckle dating to c AD1720-1790.  The buckle is complete.  The buckle comprises a rectangular frame which has been drilled through in the centre of the shorter side and a double spiked spindle inserted.  The buckle may have been tinned.  This type of buckle may have been used to fasten garters on boots.  The buckle has no chape.  Dimensions: 19.5mm length; 16.5mm width; 2.8mm thickness; 2.23g weight. cf. An early medieval incomplete Borre style buckle dating to c AD 900-1050.  The object is a zoomorphic single-loop buckle frame which is missing its pin and the pin retaining bar.  The frame is bent but was originally D-shaped with Borre-style animal heads at the ends of the bar and the mid point of the outer edge.  The frame is D-shaped in cross-section and, although very worn, retains traces of stamped decoration along both edges (possibly stamped triangles).  All three animal head knops have tapering, snub-nosed muzzles with large, rounded ears at th…

The buckle comprises of one of originally two oval loops from a symmetrical buckle frame, wit a narrowed bar flanked by knops. The copper alloy wire in survives in situ, wrapped around the bar. The object comprises a bar of copper alloy which is oval in cross section and which narrows gradually towards the outer edges. At the ends of the bar, there are two small knops which may have fitted into the buckle plate. In the centre of the bar is a raised rib which leads into a roughly triangular shaped pin. A copper alloy medieval buckle plate dating to the period c AD1250-1500. The buckle plate is complete and comprises a sheet of copper alloy which has been folded in half and has had a hole and sections at either side cut to fit the offset strap bar. There are three copper alloy rivets through the plate and on the top surface, these have decorative square studs. The top surface of the plate has an incised line around the edge and in the centre has foliate curvilinear decoration.
