A heavy iron (possibly lead filled) object which may be a Roman steelyard poise. The object is in essence a heavy round globular ball with a protrusion at one end which may have been an integral circular-section suspension loop with a collar. The base is slightly flattened. The object has a seam running around it from top to bottom. The patina of the object is dark black with a silvery sheen. There are large patches of reddish-brown corrosion. A corroded iron nail probably Roman and dating to the period AD 43-410. The nail has a square-sectioned, tapering stem, the end of the stem is missing. The head appears to be sub-round or possibly rectangular. The nail is similar to Type 1A in WH Manning Catalogue of the Romano-British Iron Tools, Fittings and Weapons in the British Museum (1985). The nail is 61.31mm in length and 29.28mm wide across the head and weighs 41.79g.
