A sherd from a roof tile dating to the post medieval date (cAD1600-1800).  The fabric is coarse with abundant small sandy inclusions with some large voids.  The fabric is dark orangey brown.  The tile is hard fired. The sherd comprises the corner of a tile and there is evidence of part of a circular nail hole.    Dimensions: 64mm in length, 57.9mm in width, 11.6mm in thickness, 68.47g in weight.

A sherd from a tile or possibly a vessel and probably of medieval/post medieval date (cAD1400-1800).  The sherd may be Verwood type pottery.  The fabric is fine with abundant small inclusions of sand, black quartz and red iron oxide.  The outer surface is oxidised to a pale pinky buff colour and the core is a reduced grey.  The pottery is hard fired.  There is evidence of abraded olive green glaze and the outer surface is decorated with two lines of three wavy combed lines which may be related to adhesion rather than decoration.    Dimensions: 5…

An incomplete copper alloy Colchester derivative Roman brooch dating to c AD 43-100.  The brooch comprises curved wings which would have curled around the spring.  The centre of the top of the bow has a forward hook that would have captured the spring and the bow then continues in a horn shape. The lower section of the bow is missing as is the spring, pin and catchplate.  The brooch is undecorated. Dimensions: 21.8mm length; 23.8mm width; 4.78g weight.

A post medieval copper alloy rectangular buckle dating to c AD1720-1790.  The buckle is complete.  The buckle comprises a rectangular frame which has been drilled through in the centre of the shorter side and a double spiked spindle inserted.  The buckle may have been tinned.  This type of buckle may have been used to fasten garters on boots.  The buckle has no chape.  Dimensions: 19.5mm length; 16.5mm width; 2.8mm thickness; 2.23g weight. cf. Whitehead (2003: 114) no 733.

A fragment of a copper alloy Roman bracelet dating to cAD320-c450.  The fragment comprises a narrow strip of copper alloy with a rectangular profile in section.  The fragment is decorated with a line of ring and dot decoration and notched decoration forming a wave along each edge of the ring and dot decoration.  The decoration terminates in a double transverse incised line.  Dimensions: length: 42.9mm, width: 4.5mm, thickess: 1.2mm, weight: 1.20g. A ceramic body sherd from a crudely made medieval vessel dating to c. AD 1075-1250. Kennet Valley ware. The sherd has a grey fabric with iron rich inclusions as well as flint and organic material.  One surface has an applied red slip and the other may have evidence of cooking residue. Dimensions: length: 42.8mm; width: 33.9mm; thickness: 6.4mm; weight: 11.87g. Found a number of years ago by the finder. Thanks very much to Lorraine Mepham and Rachael Seager-Smith for assistance with identifying this sherd and dating it to the late 11th and 13th centuries.

A post medieval-modern copper alloy pipe tamper, moulded in the form of a horse's leg and hoof dating to c AD 1700 - 1900. The hoof and leg are finely moulded.  The leg is moulded with the leg raised and at the top of the leg, the leg widens to form the tamper.  There is some evidence of corrosion and damage but the object is complete with a dark brown patina.  Cf other examples on the PAS database SWYOR-2FEE08, LVPL989 and SWYOR-7449E3.
