A copper alloy Roman trumpet derivate brooch dating to the period AD 50-175. The brooch is missing the curl of the catchplate and the top of the head loop and the pin is bent. The brooch comprises the bottom of the head loop which is decorated with an incised line across the brooch just beneath the head loop. The shoulders of the brooch then broaden out to the sides with the top line curving downwards. The bar to attach the pin is inserted through the shoulders which then narrow to the bow. Possibly, a copper alloy intaglio bezel for a Roman finger ring dating to AD 43-410 or the bezel for an intaglio in the centre of a Roman plate brooch dating to AD 100-300. The beze; is oval with narrow raised rims round the edge of each side. The rim of one side is deeper than on the other side. Presumbly, there was originally an intaglio in the depression framed by the deeper rim and the whole frame attached by the back to a finger ring or brooch. The patina is mid green and the bezel was silvered.
