A cast lead or lead alloy spindle whorl Medieval to Post Medieval date (1100 - 1650 AD), most probably later medieval (1300-1600 AD). The spindle whorl is broadly circular in plan and bi-convex in section; it has a rim / cast ridge running around its outer edge. The central hole is circular and has been cast / set off centre; it has an internal diameter of 9.3mm. When reported and photographed the central hole was filled with hard compacted soil - when it was removed an irregular sub-triangular depression most probably a casting flaw in the internal side wall of the hole was revealed.…

The fragment is broadly T-shaped in plan, comprising of the remains of the spur which has a 'D' shaped cross section. The neck protrudes from the spur at 90 degrees and is cylindrical in cross section. An incomplete fragment from the head and upper bow of a cast copper alloy Roman trumpet brooch dating from AD 75 - 175. The fragment of the brooch is distorted with the bow being further bent and distorted - probably deliberately in antiquity. The head of the brooch is oval in plan. The decoration on the front face is in relief, this consists of a series of ribs. However due to wear and corrosion it is difficult to identify the design and to categorise the token using Powell's typology. The reverse of the token is undecorated.
