A flint Lower Palaeolithic handaxe dating to the period c. 500,000 - 150,000 BC. The handaxe is cordate in shape and has been bifacially flaked using alternate flaking. It exhibits a reversed S-shaped profile. There is no cortex visible on either surface, however the handaxe has become heavily recorticated across both surfaces and exhibits a thick off-white patina. There are fossil inclusions visible on both surfaces. There is a large crack running around the edge of the distal end on one surface.
The handaxe measures 83.59mm in length, 57.04mm maximum width, 5.13mm minimum width, …

The handaxe is sub-cordate in shape with a reversed S-shape profile. It has been bifacially flaked using a soft hammer and retains c. 15% cortex visible in two places. Uneven recortication is visible across both surfaces. One patch of cortex is on one face near the butt end, the other patch is along one mesal edge, again, near the butt end. The butt end a…

It has a reversed S-shape profile. Approximately 15% cortex remains across both surfaces and uneven recortication is also visible on both surfaces. The handaxe shows evidence of rolling and iron staining. There is some recent damage at the distal end which is visible as unpatinated chips, along with older damage down both mesal edges.
