PAS-RC07 Grid F11 Three fragments of possible ceramic building material. The fragments are relatively robust and it is possible that they could be large sherds from Severn Valley vessels: however from their shape, it is more likely that they are fired remnants of rough brick or tile. The fabric of the fragments is very similar to Severn Valley pottery dating from the Roman period (100-400 AD). However such a tight date cannot be suggested for these as this form of pottery is very local - and therefore the clay source would have been used throughout the historic per…

PAS-RC07 Unsystematic collection from a site visit. Twenty sherds from Severn Valley coarseware pottery vessels, imcluding two rims and a base. As the fabric, colour and thickness differs in each sherd it is likely that different vessels are represented in the assemblage. Not enough survives of the sherds to indicate the form or overall vessel size. The sherds date from the Roman period (50 - 410). All the sherds are irregular in plan and broadly sub-rectangular in profile. They are also worn and abraded by movement in the ploughsoil. The fabric is a relatively soft fired …

PAS-RC07 Grid G9 A rim sherd from a highly decorated, wheel thrown, shallow bowl or dish slipware vessel dating from the late post medieval period (1670-1710 AD). The fabric of the pottery is hard with sparse inclusions of grit, black ironstone and some mica inclusions. The fabric colour is a mid orange brown. The sherd is glazed with a mid orange brown colour. A mid yellow trailed slip has been applied to the rim in a zig-zag line. The sherd represents a vessel with a diameter c. 11cm however, since less than 5% remains, this is not accurate. The sherd measures 30.7mm in len…

PAS-RC07 Grid G9 Three fragments of possible ceramic building material. The fragments are relatively robust and it is possible that they could be sherds from a Severn Valley vessels: however from their shape it is more likely that they are fired remnants of rough brick or tile. The fabric of the fragments is very similar to Severn Valley pottery dating from the Roman period (100-400 AD). However such a tight date cannot be suggested for these as this form of pottery is very local - and therefore the clay source would have been used throughout the historic periods. The fabric of …
