A complete cast lead alloy weight probably dating to the Post Medieval period, circa AD1500-1800. The weight is broadly conical in profile with a sub-circular base and sides which taper to a rounded point. The base of the weight shallows slightly towards the central vertical perforation. The perforation is sub circular which an approximate diameter of 4.1mm. The surface of the weight is uneven and abraded due to movement in the plough soil. The weight is light grey in colour. Maximum diameter at the base is 21.52mm. Length is 20.99mm. Weight: 44.76g. Lead weights can dat…

A cast copper alloy fragment probably from a stacking weight of Post Medieval date, circa AD1600-1800. The fragment would have been part of a set of circular weights which would have stacked inside each other. The fragment was broken in antiquity. The surfaces of the fragment are heavily worn due to movement in the plough soil. Part of a thickened, raised circular edge survives. A rim chart indicates that originally the weight would have had a diameter of approximately 7cm. The surviving upper and lower faces of the weight are plain and flat. Originally, the weight may have been stamp…

A complete probable cast lead alloy hollow standing weight of uncertain date, but probably Post Medieval, circa AD1600-1800. However, another possible identification is a protective cap for a peg or other similar object. The weight is sub-cylindrical in form, with a round, flat base. Parallel sides rise from the base, which are slightly lob-sided. The rim would have originally been sub circular but is now slightly contorted. The damage is not new. The thickness of the sides at the rim is approximately 2.3mm. The maximum diameter at the rim is 15.17mm. The approximate depth of the holl…

An incomplete standstone disk weight of unknown date. Approximately 40% of the weight survives due to old breaks. The weight would have originally been circular in plan with a central circular perforation. The weight is now U-shaped. The remains of the perforation indicate that it would have originally had a diameter of approximately 16.3mm. The upper and lower faces of the weight are undecorated and broadly flat. The external and internal edges of the weight are straight. The stone is yellow -light brown in colour with mica inclusions. The surfaces of the weight are rough and uneven,…

A cast lead alloy trade weight, of uncertain date but probably from the Medieval to Post Medieval periods, circa 1250 - 1700. The weight is sub-square in plan view with rounded corners and trapezoidal in section. The reverse of the weight is flat and undecorated with some surface wear. The sides of the weight slope inwards to a flat, sub-square face with a mounded, raised, central cross creating four recessed fields of roughly equal size. Three of the quadrants on the face of the weight are damaged with surface loss. Scratch marks are present on the most significantly damaged of the q…
