A small sherd from a Post Medieval (AD1600-1700) stoneware jug, probably a German Belamine jug. Part of the design border is present but too little survives to identify the design any further. The outer surface is covered in an iron-rich salt glaze producing a textured mottled brown effect. The fabric is hard fired and light grey in colour. An incomplete copper alloy posnet handle of Medieval date, circa AD1250-1600. Posnets were a common Medieval cooking vessel resembling a small cauldron with long handles instead of lugs. The handle fragment is sub-rectangular in plan with its widest point at the broken edge and gradually narrowing to the attachment end. A probable vessel repair (pot mend) made of cast copper alloy. The date is uncertain but probably dates from the Medieval to Post Medieval period, circa 1450 to 1650. The repair does not have any remnants of the pottery and so the date cannot be refined further. The repair comprises of a thin disk (maximum diameter 13.68mm) with an attached shaft. The repair has a green/light brown patina. There are patches of white chalk residue on the repair. Dimensions: 23.58mm x 12.87mm x 6.10mm. Weight: 4.38g.
