A silver struck penny of Elizabeth I (1558-1603). Damage to the edges of the coin with approximately 95% of the coin surviving. The initial mark only partially survives, but is possibly a plain cross or a sword which dates the coin to 1578-1583. The mint is London. The obverse shows a crowned bust facing left. Obverse legend reads E [D G RO]SA SIN[E SP]INA. The reverse legend reads [CIVITAS] LOND[ON]. The reverse shows a square shield on a long cross fourchee dividing the legend. Diameter: 12.79mm. Thickness: 0.44mm. Weight: Die axis: 7 o'clock. North no: 2001
